Is your standard greeting, “Can I help you?”
It’s not a matter of greeting the customer, it’s a matter of engaging them. Can you get them to talk to you, feel comfortable with you, and ultimately buy from you. A lot of this depends on your opening remark.
Here are three to help you get your cash register ringing:
Hi, my name is _______. (extend your hand) Would you like to see a couple of the best values in the store? Or would you like to shop around on your own and call me when you need me?
Hi, my name is _______. (extend your hand) Would you like to see what just came in?
Hi, my name is _______. (extend your hand) I can help you find whatever you need right away.
